we are glad to inform you about the 4th International Lighting Design Workshop, which will be held on the island of Kea in Greece in the first week of October under the headline «Rethink the Night!».
The workshop focuses on the development of lighting design skills, by providing the participants with the opportunity of handling up to date lighting technologies in a nightscape-compliant manner under the scotopic conditions of the particular nightsky quality of Kea, which has been proved to be equal to that of the Atacama desert in Chile by relevant photometric measurements carried out with the scientific support of Dr. Guenther Wuchterl, chairman of the Kuffner Observatory of Vienna. Three real lighting projects of manageable scale, in the picturesque pedestrian zone of the capital city of the island, Ioulis, will be implemented within one week under the guidance of experienced lighting designers.
You can get a foretaste of the forthcoming workshop by watching a relevant movie about the last one of 2016, which you can find here. A first relevant report has been published in the German magazine LICHT here and another one will be published soon in the magazine MondoArc, which also belongs to our media partners. In case of further scientific interest you can find here an article about the results of the synaesthesia-related experiments, which have been carried out during our workshop in 2016, which is supported by the lighting design master courses of the University of Wismar/DE and of the University of Aalborg/DK, the Kuffner Observatory of Vienna/AT, the Urban Research Lab of the National University of Athens/GR, the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Patras/GR and the Public Power Corporation of Greece and staged by the Hellenic Illumination Committee.
Last year we had the pleasure and honour to welcome exclusive participants from 14 countries, who creatively contributed to the international character of our educational activities turning our workshop to an important vehicle of extroversion oriented Continual Professional Development.
This year, we will be pleased to welcome you on the island of Kea and maybe also discuss with you about a perspective partnership in the potential role of an academic supporter or a workshop ambassador in your region.
We hope to meet you in person in October.

Education Programme Director
